Insight on book no. one, 'Shadow Agents'
The first draft of Shadow Agents was sent off to my editor earlier this month. Working through that draft was quite interesting. Just to get the ball rolling was a task in itself; along with finding a voice for all the people who will be interacting with Tom Brooks.
While even Brooks' voice will have to be refined moving forward, it was something to see just how the "shadow agents," Sloan, Carny, and "the receptionist," came to life. Carny has a strange infatuation with stuffed animals, which will be touched upon in the next book, and Sloan is head over heels for ... his slicked-back hair. The Receptionist (formerly Cara), is a friendly face who carries messages to the elusive J. Whitmore.
Shadow Agents is definitely a character-driven book, although Brooks encounters some colorful L.A. settings. Most importantly, readers see J. Whitmore's sanctuary, The Flyleaf Hotel. Is it Kubrick's Shining-esque? Perhaps. Everyone seems to know one another. The baristas know J. Whitmore. Has he orchestrated this business venture? Strange? Surely. Perhaps perfectly strange.
Stay tuned for more insights pertaining to Shadow Agents. As of April 18, 2016, I will be starting book number two, The Price of Stardom!
