BIOGRAPHY

Dan C. Gunderman is an author from northern New Jersey who has written Synod, a historical novel set in New Jersey during the nineteenth century (Zimbell House, Jan. 9, 2018) and two educational biographies for Lightswitch Learning (March 2018).

He was also under contract with EPIC Press from 2016-17. He wrote a six-book fiction series about the pitfalls of young adult fame. His series, Once Famous, was to be published in Fall 2017 but is now awaiting publication.

Dan holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Fairfield University. During his graduate studies, he focused in historical fiction and began writing Synod. Dan was also the co-editor-in-chief of the MFA program's literary journal, The Causeway, and was the craft editor for their previous literary journal, Mason's Road.

Dan holds a BA in Journalism and a Minor in History from Monmouth University, where he graduated with highest honors in May 2014. During his academic studies, he was the editor-in-chief of the school's online magazine, The Verge (2012-14). He took courses on Tudor England, film criticism, political campaigns, and many other noteworthy areas. He also became a "graduate" of the Dow Jones News Fund Digital Program.

Dan is currently an account executive for Violet PR, which tells stories about creative people and places. Clients include cities, real estate developers, architects, engineers, entrepreneurs and entertainment venues. He was formerly a staff writer and film/TV critic (with a “Top Critic” designation on Rotten Tomatoes) for the New York Daily News. He covered entertainment and political topics, including the 2016 presidential election. He worked with an editorial staff in both Jersey City, NJ and Manhattan, NY. He is also the former editor of the Cyber Security Hub, a site that blends news coverage and custom content.

 

​What’s more, Dan is also currently a film reviewer for The Critical Critics and UK Film Review, with stories appearing on IMDb. Over the years, he has been a critic for Cheat Sheet and Stage Buddy, as well. He enjoys screening all sorts of movies and is enthralled by filmmakers such as Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott, Quentin Tarantino, Guillermo del Toro, Martin Scorsese, and Kenneth Branagh.

Dan holds an interest in historical fiction and immersive sci-fi. His favorite authors are C.J. Sansom, Bernard Cornwell, and Kazuo Ishiguro.

 

He also enjoys trips to various historical grounds, hiking, researching Tudor and Victorian England, and spending time with his girlfriend, Rachel, and his dog, Savannah. He lives on Lake Hopatcong, the largest freshwater body in New Jersey.
